Full Moon rising/setting from Lennox Head

Hi all,

I've been away camping with the family at Lennox Head this weekend, and we had an amazing orange moonrise over the sea last night. This shot was taken using a 70-300 mm telephoto on my Pentax K100D. I also got up in time to catch the Moon low in the West, reflected in Lake Ainsworth.

I'll post a few more images in the terrestrial photography section once I get the chance to process them.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

Yes, there was lots of haze and smoke, so the Moon was a very faint orange. Almost like an eclipse in fact!

Hi there Stephen,

Have been checking out these images of yours, in particular the first one with the Moon rising. looked at it for several minutes, there was something about it that really captured my attention.

The reflection of the Moon in the water looks great, but if you put a horizontal line through the middle of the image an amazing thing happens. The top half looks like a Sun rise and the bottom half looks like a Sunset, with the Sun having just dipped below the horizon. A really amazing effect.

Regards
Trevor

Thanks Trevor. I hadn't noticed that, but you're right! I think it's the blue-ish colouring in the foam that gives the impression of blue sky in the bottom half of the image.

Thanks Adam!

Here's a shorter exposure which accurately shows the appearance of the Moon as it was rising.

Cheers,
Stephen
