Both sides of the Veil (from Qld Astrofest)

I've been so busy hunting down Messier pics I wouldn't have thought of having a go at the Veil without Martin (Bender) prompting me.

ISO400 used on Western side to try and handle the bright star better. I didn't seem to be able to bring this side to life as much as I would have preferred. Happy how the "east end" came out though.

West: 12 x 5 mins ISO 400
East: 14 x 5mins ISO 800

Both with Canon 450D + MPCC on 8 inch Newt
Thanks for looking.....

Very nice indeed.
loads of detail.
Are they the natural colours of the veil or did you use filters ?

Very nice images Rob. The colours are good.

I was viewing an image of the western section on another forum this morning where it was pointed out how the star numbers vary from one side to the other of the nebula. Your image shows this also.

I agree, they are excellent Rob. Great colours and detail. Nice processing as well.

The east Veil region has come out very nicely as you have said. I guess it is a compromise with the western region though, with the bright star to contend with. However it is still a fine image.

I'd love to have a go at this region myself one day.

Great work.

Thanks Geoff - mostly stretches (curves) and levels in PS, with some saturation tweaks. I overlayed with some Shadows/Highlights too, but no changes to colours (other than the above hocus pocus). The camera is unmodded, so blue/greens (O III?) tend to come through fairly strongly.

In general these deep sky shots are a real pleasure to process colour-wise. When I shoot from suburbia with an IDAS filter, you constantly have to tame the blues during processing and I usually need to selectively brighten the neb and similarly selectively pull back noise in the background - not required here though.

Interesting Lester. I'd love to be able to get a wide field of this sometime. It just blows the mind (no pun intended) how this thing has come apart.

I'll take smoke and Duckadang dark skies any time to Brissie lights and pollution I suspect David - good excuse for any shortcomings of mine though!

Yes, Rob, these are really beauties. You should think about framing them.
Thanks for sharing.

It's one of the most beautiful places in the sky, the Veil.
You've done a lovely job on your capture and processing Rob.

Yes - I had loads of fun exploring Cygnus and this part of the northern sky Jeanette. I've never really been a suitable place at that time of year to appreciate the fantastic star clouds, nebs, etc.

I concur with all the sentiment Rob ... Great shots of those objects .. About 4 times the data for the West should have you something close to comparable in Colour to the East. I have never imaged the East, however Im keen now. Thanks for sharing.
