Not long enough

Selling my camera, camera is perfect, fantastic infact but the zoom lens 500mm not long enough, after trying it out it looks like I need 1500 to 2000mm lens
You would think 500mm lens would get you close enough to a bird sitting in a tree 7meters away to take a good photo but no so I am giving it a miss, 1500 to 2000mm lens cost a fortune

Nope!
Even with a 5-600mm lens you gotta be right on top of them!
Or shooting RAW so you can enlarge by a factor of 4 w/o loosing detail or sharpness.
The Camera Exchange in Melbourne used to have a deal going: if you bought a 1200mm L lens ($120K) they'd through in a Toyota Corolla (or some other sub-compact) for free.
Bargain!

Have you tried digiscoping , that is, shooting through a spotting scope?
Google "digiscoping" for some good sites showing what is achievable.

Not at all - a Meade 8" or Celestron 8" will give you 2000 mm diffraction limited, at f/10 for less than $10k. Sharper, actually, than the $120k Canon item.
