Captured my best ever avi's of Mars last night! Incredible detail I thought I'd never be able to produce.
At first the image was wobbling around so bad I almost packed up straight away, but forgot I hadn't collimated for 2 weeks, checked it and it was way out. After collimating the image settled down nicely, and after a hot day it took longer for the scope's temperature to settle down too.
The seeing was great, the jetstream wasn't there and I'm excited about processing them today!
It will be my best Mars image by a LONG way. Will hopefully post them this arvo.
Congratulations Mike. I don't know about your skies but mine are extremely light polluted at the moment, and high humidity and junk in the air is reflecting the light everywhere. I could not see most of scorpio last night or orion due to this "light". I too have been looking at that jet stream and the approaching front. If we are lucky we might get tonight in as well. I even broke out the lpi and the laptop (now you know thats a big move for me) but since i couldn't achieve polar alignment I gave up in disgust. maybe I should have got the meade out?
I look forward to what you can produce Mike, the standard seems to have been set by Paul and Anthony.LOL Hope you can eclipse their efforts!!
Darn, I new i should have gone out.. Missed a perfect night. Cant wait to see your images Mike.
One problem i have is that the house next door is quiet high and Mars just gets over the roof of it when its at its peak. The one night i looked at Mars for the first time it was very blured, and I could see the heat coming of the roof tiles.
