I have a humble suggestion.
How about locking the
Request for Images thread and replacing it with something like 'Target of the month' thread. Mike gets to pick the winner, and the selected image gets posted on the home page for a week. All the other weeks of the month, Mike can just pick any old image for the home page
The competition threads on CN are all focused on targets we can hardly see from here. It would be nice to have some southern ones for a change.
Also it would be good if somehow it was friendly to beginners and encourage sharing of ideas, compliments and helping each other, rather than Hubble quality images all the time. In other words, no voting.
