Selling 8" Dobsonian

I am selling my 8" Dobsonian (Guan Sheng) it come with 4 Plossl Eyepieces....25mm,15mm,9mm and 6.5mm.

It is 3 week's old and in perfect condition, I am giving away free set of Binoculars 10 x 32 still boxed as I ordered a set with the scope and they gave me 2 sets by mistake....lol

Considering its new I want $350...if you get me on a good day I might come down a bit but nothing that will excite you......

Reason for selling is my obsession with expensive toys thus the reason for just purchasing the Meade LX200 10".

I live in Brisbane so local is preferable otherwise postage will kill the saving's.

Just a question or 2.

Did you buy this one from Andrews Communications?
Have you done any modifications to it?

I can answer for you, since we were here when he bought it

1. Yes
2. No, he's now upgraded to a LX200.

I'd recommend it Nortilus, especially since you're both in QLD.

Nortilus,

Seing knowone seemed intersted at the time of this post I thought I would give my scope to Brian at the Australian Astronomy and Science Shop Brisbane....he reckons he can easily get $500 - $550 for this scope and has buyers interested as we speak....seing I only just gave him the scope on Friday...I dont feal comfortable taking it back of him so soon as he is doing me a favour and I like the price tag on it aswell....

Sirus Optics Underwood are selling the same 8" Dob for $799 and seem to have a good turn over.....I dont know why people dont shop around?...oh well thats their problem....

I recommend you do what I did and purchase of Andrews for $399 + $50 postage...it may be a little more being in Mackay but not much......and I received it the next day...very quick...and was very happy with the sale....

Sorry.....

I just ordered one of these scopes from Andrews Comm.

Most people here seem pretty happy with it, but Striker's post has me a bit worried now.

Why are you ditching it after just 3 weeks? I was sure hoping to get more use out of it than that.

I understand that you say the reason is you got another scope that's better. But you mustn't have been very happy with the GS Dob if you went out and bought another scope so soon.

I'd v. much appreciate a reply ASAP. I still have till tomorrow to cancel/change the order.

.. and I'm in Melbourne, so returns or exchanges would be a real hassle.

Thanks

Janoskiss dont be worried......I just had to much money to spend.....I definetly recommend the Dob for value for money.....

And Janoskiss shhhhhh........otherwise Iceman will have a go at me cause he thought my purchase of a new scope so early in my Astronomy Carear may discourage new and existing dob owners......dont make him right.....lol...

Buy the Dob....you will be happy.....

Hope Mike doesn't see this post......http://www.users.on.net/~striker/toilet.gif

Ok, thanks Striker for the reply.

I looked up your Meade 10". That thing must have cost a fortune. The cost of the 8" GS Dob must be small change by comparison. So for the sake of my mental health I'll choose to believe you, even though you are the one trying to sell the thing, so of course you'd say it's a good scope ;-)

I am actually buying the GS scope, because I'm not too happy with my cheap 4.5" and because I couldn't resist the bigger after finding out it only cost $439 (incl. delivery to Melbourne). I ordered a laser collimator too, in the hope that it'll help me improve on the 4.5"... but more on that on another thread.

Nice to see that some else noticed that dealers rip off pricing. 100% premium a bit rude.
They must be rubbing there hands with shear delight over people ignorance.

Striker!!!!!!!!! What did I say!!!!! I told you!!

Janokiss, as striker said, he has too much money and just wanted to spend it.. I asked him to send me his money and he could keep the 8" dob, but he didn't go for it

The 8" dob is a very good scope, there are many members on this forum who own them and are more than happy with them. I have the 10", as does Starkler.

The GSO is a good brand and you shouldn't be concerned that striker upgraded so soon - it wasn't the quality of the scope that made him upgrade

You won't regret ordering it - keep your order and enjoy it when it arrives!

Dam Mike saw the post........I bet that head is swollen now...lol

Yes all you current and Potential Dob owners...I did not buy the LX200 and sell the 8" Dob due to quality reasons...more money reason's...I like expensive toys.....anyway I will probably upgrade the LX200 in about 12 months aswell....lol

So just go buy a GS Dob...you cant get better for the price...

P.S Mike...you win...am I off the hook now....hehe

Hey Striker,

I was considering opening a Melbourne Astronomy Shop but you have given me a better idea!

I should stock up on GS680 Dobbers and sell them next door to the Australian Astronomy and Science Shop Brisbane.
If I charge $490 for each one I will be loaded!!

True Balleratdragons,

But you would be better off selling the scopes next Sirus optics at Underwood Brisbane as they sell them for $799., Brian at the Australian Astronomy and Science shop is only selling this scope for me as a favour...he doesn't stock GS at all......
