Jen Is Getting Married

Hi All,

Jen is getting married. Not the one that won Lotto. My daughter, Jen or Jenny.

I leave for Perth on Tuesday. Jenny left Brisbane in 2000 to attend Perth Uni.Now a high school teacher.

She is marrying Luke, a community developer.
The bucks' do is on wednesday night. I'll be off air for over a week. (Will anyone miss me? I assume there is much cheering)

Hi Jen, (the Pink One,)

This is the daughter I mentioned months ago who likes geeky things, and I mentioned something about you being an Astro Geek . Relatively speaking. The two Jens are geeks in their own ways. Which is admirable from my point of view.

I am intending to have a great time in Perth. : party:

This will be my third visit. 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' joins me on thursday.

After the wedding on friday we visit some wineries, some sight seeing and return wednesday to Brisbane. After the 15th I'll be back to harrass you all.

Its a very special occasion to me. My son from Arizona will be there. He dropped by here in Brisbane and is now in Perth. A 1985 Grange Hermitage will be opened to commemorate the family reunion.

I gotta stop babbling. I wish you all well and clear skies while I'm away.

Cheers Marty

Hi Marty, hope you and yours enjoy all the family getting together, and a big congrats to Jenny and Luke.

Is the '85 (99% shiraz, 1% cab sav...mmmnnnn yum) of particular relevance? A special year perhaps?

Yep, they grow up all too quickly at times.
Congrats to you and the bride and groom Baddad. May they have a long and happy union.
You heading down Margaret River way for the wineries ? Some real nice drops to be found there.

Cheers

Hi Kerrie,

The Grange Hermitage was a birthday gift to me on my 50th some years ago. My three kids all contributed (or collaborated) to purchase it for me.

Jen was born in '83. Soon after I purchased a dozen bottles of '83 vintage port. Years later I presented the port to Jen on her 21st. I did the same with Andrew. It took quite a lot of self discipline to keep all those bottles in tact.

Australians have a habit of naming things as opposite. Like a guy with red hair is called "Blue". I got "Baddad".

So the year itself on the Grange is not anything special. Its just that the vintage was available at that time when I turned 50.

Cheers Marty

Thanks to you all for your congrats and well wishings.

Hi Glen,

You bet'cha. The Swan Valley and Margaret River areas are very good wine producers. I find that only the McLaren Vale area tops WA. The Barossa is very good and I'd say its on par with WA, or perhaps only marginally better.

Hi Kev,

Hangovers tend to see stars.

I don't intend to experience a hangover. I'll stay merry the whole time. It will be interesting to see the night sky in WA. I wonder if I'd be able to discriminate any differences.

Cheers Marty

Marty (Bad Dad ?), you're strong not opening that port, well resisted. We (hubby Frank and I) were given a specially labelled bottle of port from one of our local winemakers when we got married, with instructions on the label for us not to open it until our 20th wedding anniversary...only 6 years to go ,tick tock. LOL, maybe thats why we're still married, just so that we can open that port!!

Likewise I bought Frank a bottle of '69 Grange when he turned 30 (he was born in '69), he says he'll never open it because its worth too much now. Huh!! I say we crack it open this week as he has just turned 40!!

Hope you get a chance to look up while on the other side of 'the world'.

Kerrie

Hi Kerrie,

We (hubby Frank and I) were given...............thats why we're still married, just so that we can open that port!!

Oooh. That takes some willpower. Its a very nice gift, or gesture. What is the name of the winery?

What's to happen after its drank?
Maybe buy a half dozen (or more) of a particular vintage and open them on each successive anniversary.

Bet Hubby won't forget those important days then.

In fact I just may search for a winery in WA that stocks 15 yr old port. Roslyn and I met in '94 and we have been partners since.

I now have a goal while in WA. Thanks for that Kerrie.

Cheers Marty

Marty the name of the winery is Cargo Road Wines. A great bloke named John Swanson was the vineyard and winery owner, winemaker, entertainer, and friend. A number of years ago he sold up to a consortium from Sydney, and moved with his family to Tassie. When he went we bought a 550 (!!! greed hath no limits) barrel of a different port (its name is Red Eye Port) from him; occasionally we take the plug out and decant a bit or just join bendy straws together and sample straight from the barrel.

AS to what will happen after the port has gone, I might be able to persuade Frank to stay with the few bottles of 1988 Penfolds bin 707 or the 1986 St Henri I have stashed for a rainy day. None of that feminine alluring from me!!
