Thanks for the comments guys.
Yesterday was a great day for the image .
Not only to get it up on APOD, but it was my submission this year in the Malin Awards.
And last night it was the Category Winner for the Open section (twilight theme).
No doubt someone who was more diligent at taking notes than I will post a list of winners with some images soon. Congratulations to a whole lot of IIS members.
I am very pleased with the image. Last year was my ninth total solar eclipse (OK so I am an eclipse junkie - and that is part of the reason for the AstroTourist nametag.) And over that time I have taken scads of eclipse images. I have some great baileys beads, chromsphere, promenences corona composites, multi exposure images of eclipses etc. (must get around to doing that website someday). But nothing that really conveys what an eclipse is all about. The darkening of the sky, the light and shadows, the gobsmacking, awe inspiring spectacle – what brings me back time after time. And that is what I set out to capture in this image.
I can go into the details of the image a little later. It took a lot of planning to set up and quite a bit to process. Have just arrived back in Bris . Drove overnight from Parkes to catch a 6 AM flight from Sydney back to Bris, as I am leaving for Wednesday's eclipse in China later today.
Rgds,
Terry
