Got some clear skies recently, first in a very long time. Unfortunately, I was only able to get two exposures of Omega before I was engulfed with endless hardware problems. Making this a night I never want to experience again.
The bluetooth disconnected after I tried to connect remotely to the observatory computer. Power plug becoming loose when the mount was slewing. Me not realising the power plug was disconnected. Me trying to work out exactly what was wrong. Me scratching me head for 45 minutes. Me restarting the computer several times. Me finding that the power plug was loose. The USB hub deciding to stop doing its job. The Moon rising in the east....
To cut the story, I was only able to capture two 5 minute subs. Not ideal but what can you do?
Not a bad result considering. Sorry I had to get it off my chest.
for only a couple exp its well done, nice and crisp plus i can see the star color variations.
we all have bad nights occasionally, but that was two or three all at once..... never mind you will know what to look for next time, and hopefully solve it quikly so you can get more time at the camera
Boy I hear ya Matt!! Those nights are awful, especially when the clear nights are so rare (as they are for me right now too) - the last thing you want to do is troubleshoot malfunctions ... my deepest sympathies! But hey, you perservered and got a respectable image with only 2 subs! Well done!
Thats great Matt ! it sounds like " one of those nights" LOL
A bit more data next time. Well done
Glad they don't happen too often. Hoping the next clear night will be better than this one.
Thanks David.

cheers clive.
Thanks Clive. I have had other bad nights but have always been able to solve the problem quite quickly. Will help with next time though.

Thanks Marcus. Not much you can do on one of these nights.
Knowing that you are loosing the uphill battle against your equipment is probably a good sign to pack it in and start over on the next clear night.
Even if you have to wait a couple weeks (maybe months) for it.

Thanks Dave. Hopefully the skies will clear up soon.
Despite a harrowing evening, you have managed to produce a very memorable image – top marks having the equanimity to persevere and produce such a fine portrait of the King of Globulars!
I know what you mean Matt. I've just started having guiding issues for the first time. The upside is the stars look good, nice colour and I can't see any drift or coma so when you get it all working you should be in for some happy times.
Good stuff Matty! For 600s of data, its a remarkable result to be pleased about. Geez, just imagine if you did nail the intended data as planned. Excellent. Looking forward to seeing more. Well done.

Thanks Dennis. I am very happy that this image has done the King of Globs justice. Was well worth it.

Thanks Vincent. Not a good feeling when you know how rare clear nights are. At least I got a decent image out of it.

Thanks Peter. This was the first night I use a Bahtinov Mask for focusing. Extremely happy with the results I got with it.
Hopefully you get your guiding problems sorted.

I'd be interested to hear what ISO you used? 400?
You'd be surprised, I've already started to bold after this experience!
I used ISO 800 and an IDAS LPS filter.
Thanks.

Thanks Jase. I really appreciate it. Would have loved to capture more subs but my equipment had other plans. Looking forward to revisit this Glob soon.
Problems like you experienced usually happen on the best of nights Matty, but at least you were able to produce a good image from only 2 subs.
Well done.

Thanks Barb and Dave. It's funny that when the conditions are as favourable everything works perfectly. It is always the way.
Nice image Matt, Considering it is only 2 images. Sorry to here about the problems but it's all that Murphy bugger. Always something, work, hardware or weather. I wish it was diferent but thats the way it goes.
Matty, yea late as usual, I know, I reckon you have done very well with this one, considering your problems, a pretty difficult one to get right sometimes, well for me anyway, but you have done it justice, nice work.
Nice shot there, Matt, considering all the gremlins you were having!!!
It always pays to check your equipment before you start, and then recheck again to make sure you haven't missed something.
Thanks Carl. I know where to look next time I get similar problems. It would be a good idea to triple check everthing.

Nice image just the same.
Well done.
Thanks Doug. This is something that comes with this hobby. You are either cursing at the clouds or trying to get your equipment working.
Never a dull moment that's for sure.

Thanks Leon. Imaging bright globs isn't an easy task. You need decent seeing to get some core structure showing and I think I was lucky with getting quite good seeing in the ten minutes.
