October Imaging Challenge (GX) - Grus Quartet

Hi all.

We'd love you to take part in the October Imaging Challenge. Please post your images here.

Please ensure all images obey the posting guidelines when you attach them.

While it would be nice if the image was taken in the month of October, it's not essential so feel free to post older images if you're unable to take some new ones.

We look forward to seeing your contributions!

Thanks David and Gary, hey no extra charge for the donuts in It ! you know I viewed these many times but never as a quartet , I've always thought of them as the Grus Triplet am I the only one ?

Nice catch Louie. I have heard the three closest galaxies being referred to as the "Three Bears", but most other references I have seen say Grus Quartet. The Grus Triplet is fitting though as they do resemble the Leo Triplet.

Hi louie, I have just had a good look at your image for Supernova, none found but great shot, the three galaxies in a group NGCs 7582 7590 and 7599 are usualy known as the Grus or Southern Triplet with NGC 7552 just out of the field of view, but show up in wide images or a good wide field eyepiece.astroron

Hi Louie One parsec(pc) is equal to 3.2616 light years or 206.265 astronomical units. Kiloparsec(Kpc)=1000 parsec and Megaparsec(Mpc)=1000.000 parsecs, so the distance to Alpha Cent is aprox 1..32 pc, so to get an idea of the distance just add the pc by 3.2 and then multply by 1000 for Kiloparsec and 1000.000 forMegaparsec,
I hope that helps. astroron

God astroron ! what is this partical with wave behaviour that has the energy to travel these enormous distances . Is this what gets us hooked on these faint fuzzies ? knowing that .
Some times I force my self to stop thinking about It because I start feeling
over whelmed by It all especially when I try to picture the expansion of the universe in my head .
