Sombrero Galaxy

Shot this on Thursday night of Sombrero

C8 SCT Canon 300D f/10 10x2 min subs, 5x 3min subs and 5x4min subs.

I expected more detail to show... I get too impatient to move on, instead of taking more subs.

Soon, I shall have my new 40D.

Sorry Rob just can't see it ???

Attached is a Sombrero I did for an indication of exposure times required, this was with an ED80 Canon 350d multiple 80s and several 8 minute exposures 2x drizzle applied in DSS

For this one multiple 8-10 minute exposures at least are required

Can just see it in the top right of the image, certainly needs some more exposure, however top marks for giving it a go.

Hi Rob, I had to give the image a really hard stretch to confirm it was Sombrero. You need lots longer and way more subs to lift any detail on a galaxy such as this. Everyone lately seems to be doing varying length exposures. As a general rule this is not required and the setup time would be better spent capturing. The need for shorter and varying exposure times is more of a requirement for nebulas where some form of blending is required to show up detail which is destroyed by long exposures. Targets such as Orion Nebula and Eta Carinae can benift from varying length exposures but not too many galaxies and very faint objects. The only pre requisite for these targets is lots of exposure.

Keep at it Rob.
