Jupiter Avi

Thought that I would post a small avi taken on the night of the 22nd JUly 2009. Can see two moon shadow transits, one moon, GRS transit and the great "Bird strike" at the bottom of Jupiter. Sorry for the lousy seeing, but that was out of my control.

I like it Allan -far better than I can achieve any day, congratulations. The processing skills are there that’s for sure, as well as the image gathering ability.

As for Dennis, I am sure he could image anything on the edge of the known universe with a pin hole camera and a box brownie whilst juggling hungry piranhas walking on his hands through broken glass over a fire pit!

Yes – the seeing just wasn’t suited to imaging planets that night. It seems that you, Matt, Paul and I seemed to uniformly encounter the same conditions so the jet stream map certainly matched what we all encountered. I guess none of us would have been outdoors had the “Bird Strike” not been visible!

I think I gave myself a little more leeway by using a slightly smaller aperture, a x2 Barlow and the mono DMK21. Also, the selective culling of AVI’s helped me get the best frames and I found that the Max Ent routine in Astra Image Pro 3 really added a welcome touch-up to my output from Registax. The ME deconv seemed to tighten up the detail, smooth out some noise and balance the levels.

Ah, you’re a real cheeky lad; I bet your mother had her hands full keeping you under control with such a fertile imagination as that! However, if that’s what it takes to beat the jet stream, where do I sign up for the fire walking classes!

BTW doesnt Registax have deconvolution in it? Maybe you can get Allan's data and reprocess that to see what the difference the software may make as well?
