Saturn storm.

Not that I can see any planets at this time of the year, but wondering if anyone can see/has seen this huge storm visually??

I have seen the excellent images being taken, well done to Trev, Bird and Troy ...... it is certainly a doozy of a storm.

Hi Liz... you should have no trouble seeing the storm in your 10" scope, it's very bright white against the yellow/brown colour of Saturn. Next chance for you will be Saturday morning from 4.30 onwards with transit at 5.15am

cheers, Bird

I had a look through my 10" Dob this morning at 5am AEDT. I couldn't see it. Seeing was reasonable on a cool morning, and the time should have been right. Maybe the contrast was not good enough for my eyes. Although having to regularly move the scope (it is not tracking) and watch Saturn drift across does make it difficult to get the best seeing in the middle of the field of view.
I think the storm will be visible about 2:30 -3 tomorrow morning but Saturn won't be very high above the horizon.

Hi Phil and .
Am not sure of exact times, apart from the one Bird said.
Will check the skies 2.30, but wont hold out high hopes.
Would be great to see though.

Mozzie - did you work out that the times given at the Lackawanna site, we add 15 hrs, or 16 hrs if daylight saving, so making it about the 4.14 am for Queenslanders, close to what Bird said, but not 5.15, which is the daylight saving time.
Am bloody working anyway, but the next morning looks better at 1.30 ish .... I think.

on a happier note - the treechopper came yday and removed a small tree leaning on the garage, and larger tree which had split down the middle, and a giant grapefruit tree that was a mess.
Voila - I now have views of the western skies.

saturn storm

Hi folks, I am a little late with this reply, however Sunday night I decided to set up the 17.5 as the sky was near perfect here in Kettering. At about midnight I started to look at the darker sky as the moon had set, by 1am saturn was getting very sharp, divisions in the rings and what appeared to be a very visible blue band in one of the hemispheres! I am thinking this is what you all are talking about. I was very excited about the clarity of the planet as this is the first time since I have owned this scope that saturn has been positioned nicely in the sky. I was able to observe with a combination of my 13mm ethos, paracor and 2x powermate, it was stunning. I finally quit at 3:15 am. I do hope what I had seen was the storm! cheers all Graham
