Another shot taken at Queenstown during our Sth Island odyssey!

I love this stretch of the Southern Alps. The sheer scale of the mountains and their multi-peaked appearance are truly awe inspiring.

We sat on a nearby bench for ages, taking in the serenity of this scene. I couldn't help but wonder and marvel at the forces of nature required to create such amazing vistas.

Gee, you guys had some nice weather with all the blue skies I’ve been seeing, or have you discovered the blue sky filter in Photoshop! LOL!

That is a stunning landscape photo and very nicely composed. It is very pleasing to the eye and I can almost feel myself sitting there looking at the mountains. I like the fact that you can see very nice detail in the various gullies, ridges and faces of the mountains, often they are left too dark and brooding. From the shadows, it appears the Sun was reasonably high up in the sky at the time.

How far away are they and do you have any idea of their height? Also, how did you get on with your circular polarizer, did you get a chance to put it to use?

Hi Dennis.

I'd hazard a guess and say they were around 5-10km from my vantage point.

The highest point in the range is Double Cone at 2340 metres.

According to Wikipedia, they are named The Remarkables because they are one of only two mountain ranges in the world which run directly north to south.

I had read that the air in NZ tends to be quite clean and clear. In transparent skies, I have often been fooled by hills and mountains that appear to be close but in fact are much further away than the eye leads one to believe.

No doubt Gary Beal will drop in here sometime soon, extolling the virtues of the NZ skies! LOL!
