Your favourite '2 for 1' objects

Hi all,

I'd like to start a list of your favourite '2 for 1' objects. These are those objects which, for the element of coincidence, lie one in front of the other, or very close within FOV. Together they form an interesting montage.

I'd like to kick this of with a nice pair I just found in Scorpius:

* M7 and the small globular NGC 6453.

How often have we foresaken M7 as a worthy telescopic object once we have reached a level of experience. This small faint GC lying on the western edge of the huge cluster, offered the challenge and spectacle to revisit M7. It was a challenge to make it out through the glare of the brilliant stars of M7. M7 lies 800 ly's from us, NGC 6453 31,000 ly's. This GC will challenge most large scopes to resolve her.

I have an all new 'respect' for M7 now. She comes baring a baby!

I found it courtesy of Asahi's star charts (great posting RapidEye).

Mental.

Alexander, these two come to mind ...

The open cluster M46 in Puppis has the chance alignment planetary nebula NGC 2438, visual magnitude 10.8. Be difficult to see now with Puppis setting early.
There is the globular cluster NGC 362 just north of the Small Magellanic Cloud. It is magnitude 7.2 and diameter 13 minutes.

Regards, Rob

G1ZmO, does your posting mean you are coming SOUTH, ?

Sagittarius has a pair of GCs that fit nicely into an EP:

NGC 6522 & NGC 6528.

The former is the brighter, and slightly larger. At a quick glance they look like a pair of soft eyes looking back at you.

There is a dark nebula very close to 6528, 'Baade's Window', but I'm still to spot it, not having seen these outside of Sydney yet.

I agree - low power field with bright GC NGC 6723 along with tiny refl neb NGC 6726-6727 & 6729 is pretty hard to beat. 6729 is very small but startling, like a comet, or 'jet'!

Plenty of 'multiple' galaxies on offer too, no doubt NGCLes will comment on a few!

Cheers -

With the added bonus of the nice, almost equal double BrsO14, 6.3/6.8m , 12.8" in the same field. That corner of Cor Aust has always been a favourite.
