Advanced Imaging Conference 2009

The mecca for astro imaging is approaching for 2009. There is not a single event around that can be compared. Time for information overload. Here's a sneak peak of this years line up...Imaging master Tony Hallas is awarded the 2009 Hubble Award...

Workshops by:

• Frank Barnes will guide you through the ends and outs of using CCD AutoPilot;
• Steve Bisque will demonstrate and explain how to leverage the full potential of theSkyX with your imaging projects;
• Adam Block will focus his considerable experience on intermediate to advanced processing techniques;
• Ken Crawford will give insight into his traditional and beautiful six filter narrow band imaging processes;
• Alan Erickson and Aravind Krishnaswamy, two of the lead developers for Adobe Photoshop, will discuss shortcuts and other techniques tucked away in Photoshop that can turbo charge your processing skills with that application;
• Tony Hallas will unlock the lid and share many of his amazing image processing methods;
• Warren Keller will provide his highly-regarded Photoshop training for beginner and intermediate imagers;
• Michael Sherick will describe how he uses CCDCommander to its best advantage and
• NEW! George Sjoberg will explain how he gets the most out of ACP to gather imaging data.
• Craig Stark will offer great, time-saving advice about auto-guiding.

General session presentations by:

• Dr. Letty Wilson Bonnell (with her husband, APOD's Dr. Jerry Bonnell) will discuss the presence of visual elements in art and how they have relevance to astronomical imagery;
• Tom Davis will discuss the unique challenges of and offer solutions for processing short focal length images;
• Dr. David Martinez-Delgado (IAC & MPIA) will describe his collaborative work in galactic archeology with the amateur astrophotography community;
• R. Jay GaBany will describe techniques that can feed your eye tooth cravings;
• Tony Hallas will give the 2009 Hubble Award Lecture;
• Paul Mortfield will have you running back to your old data unlocking new discoveries;
• Craig Stark will offer tips about watching the stars while watching your budget and
• Volker Wendel will describe the techniques he has mastered over the years for bringing out the best in long focal length data.

Follow your dreams Mike. Flights and accommodation are cheap. They also coordinate tours during the day into San Fran, so you can ditch the wife and kids to concentrate on the more important reason why you're there...imaging paradise.

Nope. No, slow F/40 scopes here. All < F/10. Hardcore DSO imagers all the way. There was a session on processing solar images a few years back. Probably didn't catch on.

they really should make a dvd of the different sessions for the imagers who cant get there, should be a good seller i would have thought.... or you could just leave a camera running up the back and bring it home.

Actually there was a guy there last year video taping it all. I'll ask him if he'll publish a copy. Adam Block produced a DVD with two processing demos of images he had put together. He was simply giving them out. I'm looking forward to hearing about Bisque's SkyX. Apparently holds some new wonders over TheSky6 for imaging and acquistion planning. Should be interesting.

You bet. I've already booked. I've never seen anything like it - all facets of imaging are discussed...and if its not, name a topic and you'll find someone their that will discuss it with you for hours. Its like an advanced astro imaging boot camp. Bookings for the general public open next week I believe. Previous attendees get first dibs as space is limited. Looking forward to catching up with the folks at Lightbuckets, Bob from DC3, along with a few imaging comrades I met last time. Should be a blast.

Will do my best to check in with write ups. No promises though. You'll probably just get some pretty pictures of glamours scopes. Will be certain to announce any new vendor product releases however as this is the event they normally announce them. I feel certain direct drive mounts (no worms) are still coming into vogue. So no surprises there, its probably just a matter of who is doing what. A game of vendor leap frog (can you top this attitude).

My fiance has been saying we should take the opportunity to fly OS while we can. And I have leave from work booked for that period of time, for our honeymoon. Perhaps I could wrangle an astro-imaging conference honeymoon

It would be a bit like an astroimagers disneyland.

There are so many imaging experts in the line up it would be sensational to see.

I hope to be able to come along next year... this year is a bit of a tight stretch...

Look forward to seeing some pretty pics of some serious gear! I've still got the photo of the 24" RCOS with the 12.5" piggybacked on it saved on my desktop from last years write up... I'd probably get kicked out for drooling on a few mirrors!

The good thing is that they are putting up the presentations of previous years on their site, so hopefully they will do the same for this years.
