A first attempt at Mars

Doesnt-of course -look anything like the stunning images videoguy, Bird, Mike and others are posting. Come to think of it doesnt even look like the same object! Still it is my first try at imaging Mars and you have to start somewhere
this was imaged in the early hours of Monday morning with the 8 inch Newt

tried with a 2x barlow, then a 3x Barlow and finally stacked the two barlows

took about 1000 odd frames and stacked in Registax not much other processing

the 3 x barlow seemed to give best results. Didnt use an IR filter, will try one next time.

the colours are completely different from what these expert planetary imagers are getting but I'm not sure why

well, at least I tried

Great start seeker, i've found it can take a while to get the colour right for Mars. Are you usign your Atik camera for these?

Doesn't look like the seeing supported stacking the barlows, but your 3x image looks great. Well done and just in time for opposition!

after checking with seeker, i have played in astra image like the planet masters do and it work quite nicely.

Also I have John K's very very large in file size and image video of mars from a week ago.

I will be editing into smaller sections and posting a link for guys to have a crack at trying to emulate Iceman's reworking of John's original.

John has kindly allowed me to do this for educational purposes only for helping us newby's to learn processing. Rumples and ice's setting for registax are a must!

It is a 200 second tracked 1.5" on screen image of mars. (insert homer drooling here)

Thanks John!

Nice rework Dave.

I'm also happy to have a play with your avi if you'd like, Narayan. Just email it to me, or send a link where you have it uploaded?

Thanks!

This is a great start Seeker, Please go to Dave' (davidpretorius) latest image and use the setting and minitutorial I setout there. This I am sure will help in your quest and shorten the learning curve for you.

I might set about making a proper Tutorial which I can submit to Mike if that is what you all want. What do you think Mike, should I?

Anyway, you are well ahead of the learning curve. Best of luck in the coming weeks.

Paul
