Lost drive....

Hi all,

I have lost my Slave drive (D: ) it shows up in the BIOS but it doesn't show under my computer or anywhere else, is there something I can do to get it back, it has all my archived images on it that were almost ready for copying to CD.

I have tried resetting BIOS but this didn't work, I also disconnected the drive and reconnected it, but that didn't work either. Can you help pleeeeeeeeese!

Andrew, get a linux operating system called Knoppix (can get from some supermarket PC mags), it boots from cdrom, and doesn't write to HDD. it will allow you to access any drive on the computer. catch is you will have to transfer your data to another drive. it is reasonably friendly to use and easy to pick up 9concept that is) by the sounds of it thought, if the OS isn't picking it up it may have failed on the platters, the fact the drive wil spin up and be recognised in bios means that you have some hope to retrieve data.

but first try the cable connections and try it on another drive slot. under no circumstances use it as a boot drive (master) you will potentially lose what you have through accidental formatting.

try it as a slave on the same cable connection as the cdrom (make cdrom master by hard switching it).

what is you OS?

PM me you email address and phone number

I couldn't find that program Houghy so I have just taken the drive out until I can get an IT specialist mate of mine to see if he can get the info off it.
