NGC 3199 HaLRGB repro

Looking at the great 3199 images Doug and others have posted of late in Ha reminded me I'd always meant to go back and do a more honest LRGB of this one from previous data. Cleaning this up means I've finally used up all the data I collected at Wiruna (South Pacific Star Party) last year. Always important to try not get to get more than 12 months behind with your processing....

Anyway, this one has only a smidge of Ha blended into the lum to get a little more contrast. I've tried to cal the colour best I could, so I think the blues far more accurate than my original dodgey "salmon" version with too much Ha in the L and red channels.

8" Newt/QHY9
HaLRGB 70:25:15:20:20 (all 5min subs unbinned)

Link to original versus with Ha and somewhat more abstract colour....

Thanks Marc - Peter Ward posted an image that first got me interested in this one last year. It is a nice field. Wish I had a transporter I could step into to get to Wiruna or out west in a hurry....

I haven't had too many opportunities to let rip and collect hours of quality data Brendan, so you make do best you can. It really does take a bit of work to get a good LRGB image though sometimes, especially if you have any light pollution gradients etc to work with. Thanks

Very nice image, Rob. Obviously needed a lot of data to do it justice and it's a great shot and well processed.

I think this dates back to the era whe I looked at a B/W Ha image Alan and always wanted to see it in colour
The reality though is that Ha is so good at producing detail and contrast that you rarely gain anything in details (just some pretty colours!), unless you shoot full NB filters and know how to process it well of course.

Still, it was all a learning exercise, particularly learning this WR neb isn't actually pink

Thanks for looking,
Rob

Nice image Rob... A bit bigger than my image of this. You are acheiving some very nice results with this setup. Keep posting.

Thanks for looking Ross - that was a major goal really - to see if I could get a more accurate colour representation and end up with something half decent, so glad to hear looks reasonable for someone else too.

Thanks for the encouragement Mike. I s'pose if we had a transporter we'd have warp speed and may as well be imaging from orbit nearby whatever it is....
I've got to stop watching Star Trek reruns

Thanks again for the encouragement too Doug. It was a bit of a gamble spending so much of my astro budget on the camera, but I had a hunch I could make it all work reasonably well. Hardly tak sharp, but I'm really happy with FL versus FOV and how much light I can collect on the odd occasion I do go bush for a night or so for the price of it all.
