Filth

Could be especially interesting for fans of The Goodies and the Floyd.

Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story airs 8:35pm Sunday on ABC1.

Thanks for the heads up Jeanette.
I'm old enough for this show to have some relevance for me unfortunately!!
Will definitely be tuning in.

Great thread JJJ.

I think I am a closet Mary...

Just look what happens when you switch on TV or radio, sex, murder, blood, incest, rape, drugs, more blood, nudity, cruelty, sadism, graphic homosexual shows that show almost everything, *******ism on prime time family shows (was it neighbors or home and away?) cop shows trying to outdo each other in shocking and horrific homicides, people screaming, begging, whimpering and crying while being beaten or tortured, blokes crying openly on reality shows on national television, who is screwing who on big brother live?....where does it stop?

I think freedom of expression has gone too far. If anyone disagrees, then perhaps it is because it's been so prolific for so long, the we have become desensitised by being flooded with it everywhere. Even the family Simpsons is flaunting some pretty raunchy and adult themes now. What's worse, is the kids get the jokes. Cartoons used to be for kids. Family guy? I don't think so....

I'm glad my son has grown up and I don't have to worry about any of my young ones being exposed to this. Unfortunately, I couldn't protect him from it either. Now that he is desensitised, i wonder how he will view it when he has kids? There seems to be no avoiding it. You can't even stop it on a computer anymore. They all have to have one nowadays for their education.

Normal and harmless..well, that's to be debated. Personally, I loath turning the TV on. Catalyst, a bit of news (risky too) and DVD's so I can control what goes into my head to some extent. That's about it.

Some might say I am narrow minded, but if it means trying to limit all this negative filth and disgusting human vices festering in the minds of my children, those I love and myself, then you bet I am!

ahhhh...I feel better...

I knew i could count on you H to get the connection but Adam, you took it that one step further.
For Goodies fans, see "Gender Education" for their take on the "town mouse".

Thanks Jeanette, Yep, big, big Goodies fan here. Love the "Sex and Violence" episode with the obvious parody of Mary Whitehouse with the character "Mrs. Desiree Carthorse" - Spittin' image of her. Here is a link to the BBC Gender Education Film form the Goodies Episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_k-JD2Ng2A

Have to agree with Bazz in some respects. No prude this way, but I watch almost no TV for the reasons he put forward. I don't find violence and blatant sex entertaining or so called reality shows with scripted happenings, hosted by people with painted on smiles. The only good thing is it shows how far down we have slipped in the civilisation index.

As for Mary, she went way over the top at times, but what can you expect from someone who's surname rhymes with toilet (as Mr William Connolly was heard to remark )

I must add that this was the jewel of The Goodies, it was social commentary of its day with very poignant messages in nearly all episodes.

The Goodies, my favourite show from the Beeb. Never used to miss it when I lived in Scotland. Can you get the episodes on DVD? I'd love to watch them again.

Bill, it's a real bone of contention. There are limited releases of collections but not in full Seasons like every other TV show in the history of Television. I think the Beeb is withholding them or something similar to this.

http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/product.asp?productid=723020
- This has the episode referred to in this thread "Gender Education"

http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/produc...oductid=730972

http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/produc...oductid=733612

And their LWT season is on DVD, complete. You'll have to search for it, sorry, running out of time.

Just found the lot on Ebay, went bananas and bought them all . Was hoping there was a box set or something, but obviously not.
Looking forward to seeing at least some of them again, especially the lighthouse one, being an ex lighthouse person myself

There's so many good episodes that you just can't name one.

The only shows I regularly watch on telly are Spicks and Specks and The Gruen Transfer.
Though with Red Dwarf starting up again I reckon I'll be putting that on the menu too.

Ah, well, that explains that then. LOL
I've been keeping an eye on feebay for months trying to score a Goodies set and kept seeing the same ones over and over... have to admit was starting to wonder if a set existed.

Atleast Monkey is available as a box set, there's even 13 episodes that were never dubbed in english, been done now tho with the original voices. Just wish I could score one at a decent price.
