Hi - curious if anyone has had any experience with using a Herschel wedge and how the views would compare to Baader solar film or similar white light filter. I have used Baader film on a refractor and must say that I was a little underwhelmed... I've tried google and looked at other sites but haven't really seen much info on this comparison. I know the next step is something like a PST but they are not cheap.
Andrew,
A good quality Herschel wedge (Baader/ Lunt) with a ND3.8 filter on a refractor will give excellent white light view of the Sun.
IMHO having used both....the Baader film gives as good a definition, and the wedge a "whiter" image.
