Unhappy Forgot Password

My computer lost all my Passwords that where saved including iis and my Hotmail password
When I go through the rigmaroll to get your password from Hotmail they say they will send it to my email address, the only problem is that I need the password to get into my account
I have lost the original clues to my password as I havn't needed to use the password for about 8 years.
I have tried many clues but after a while they just close down my efforts and to try again later as I have tried to many times
What does one do to get their password back

I run Password Safe from a USB key.
That way I have a safe place to keep passwords off the computer and a way to carry passwords with me in case I'm logging on to a forum (for example) from someone elses computer and can't remember my password.
You only have to remember one pass pharse and that's the one to unlock the password safe.

( I realise that this doesn't exactly help in your current situation - but next time )

Ron,
When you said the Passwords were saved, do you mean in a Word file?
This might be asking the obvious but have you done a search for the file on your computer. It may have been moved accidently to another folder on your computer.

Regards, Rob.

No Rob,when you open up Hotmail it says save my password? and you put a tick against it .
I did that about eight years ago and have not needed to put my password in again.
For some strange reason hotmail reset itself and asked me to sign in with my user name and password, I thought I had remembered it but Hotmail does not recognize any password I put in
They wont even let me send them a message as they require a password

Ron,
Presumably, when you signed up you would have had to supply an alternative email address so that if you forget your password, the new one would be sent there. Do you have an alternative email address?

Rob Not with Hotmail you don't have to put an alternative email address.
My Hotmail sign in box is still ticked save my password and in the help box says that just click on the box and the saved password will be activated but nothing happens.
The password has been deleted.
I am at a loss as to what to do , except to start another hotmail account?

Ron,
Did you have to supply a secret question and answer in order to retrieve the password and have you gone through this process?

Rob, yes but it does not except my answers, so I go to the retrieve password page and go through the rigmaroll of character recognision which then tells me it will post my password to my email address, which as I said needs my password to enter

Ron, did you clean out your cookies folder? I think that is where your password etc is stored for auto login.

The one question they ask in the validation process is the one question I cannot answer, if I could I would not have the problem

This is why I do not recommend using auto remember for passwords. People forget them. I make sure that I can remember all my passwords.
