Idiot!

Thursday night I was out using the scope, and put the battery packs on charge afterwards.

The power tank I use on the mount was recharged before I finished processing my spectra and went inside, so I unplugged it.

Friday morning, I went out the obs to check the jump starter pack I use for the dew heaters. Strange... still charging. I let it go, came back later that afternoon... still charging. That's a bit odd, but left it go...

This morning I went out to check it again... What? No LEDs on at all... oh... some idiot left the dew heaters plugged in!

I unplugged the dew heaters and at least the charging light came back on.... Here's hoping the battery comes back up and hasn;t dropped a cell like my other jump starter pack did.

The frustrating part is I have a check list stuck to the inside to the obs door for me to check before I leave! Did I read it? NNNNOOOOOOO!

There's just no helping some people!

Al.

You're not alone Al, I'm getting a bit that way lately. Might have to write my name on bits of paper and leave them around the house.

I have post-it notes on everything Al, that is until they get old and fall off or the cat pulls them off because they look fun to play with and chew.

Cheers

You could be right... its a scary thought, but I know I've messed things up that I would never have done 10 to 15 years ago.

All the checklists in the world will not help if brain is not in gear. What can actually happen is that you make the same wrong logical mistake again as you go through the checklist. In all seriousness the best way is to go away for about ten minutes and then come back. While away do something else to break the illogical train of thought. Then check again!

Of course this is not good advice if your aicraft is in a spin or stalling! The correction should be instant and instinctive.

I used to run a lab with lots of equipment that ran by itself if the whole lot was programmed correctly!

And yes I never made a mistake by rechecking after I went to the pub.

Bert

Very true, Bert!

Well the bad news is I managed to cook the battery - it's dropped a cell.

The good news is, I've ordered a new 100AH deep cycle AGM battery, and I'm starting to plan a proper 12V system for the obs.

I have to put notes to remind me where I put other notes. The years start to show (slow) up the memory!

And did perhaps the missing half a carton have anything to do with that happening
