Macquarie Anglican Churches Astronomy Night - 2nd May

Passing this info on from Glenn Davis.

Quote:
Macquarie Anglican Churches are holding an Astronomy Night on the first Saturday night in May as an outreach event to the community. Part of the reason for holding the night is to take advantage of publicity on Astronomy as 2009 is “International Year of Astronomy” and to link Astronomy and what we see in the sky with God the creator.
We will be challenging people to “Get To Know The Maker………”. Dr Scott Croom a member of Macquarie Anglican Churches , an Astronomer who works at Sydney University is giving a talk on the night. A number of telescopes will be available for people to look through to see the first quarter moon, Saturn, the Southern Cross and other features of the night sky.

Details are:
Saturday 2 May 2009
7-30pm till 10-30pm
Yamble Reserve, Quarry Road Ryde
Bring warm clothes, a seat, a thermos and an enthusiasm to discover.
Note: If you or someone you know has a telescope (we have some but more would be good) they would be willing to bring on the night please contact Alan Turner on 9807 3220. We will also need volunteers for various duties eg set up, pack up and to supervise proceedings during the night. If you can help please contact Alan.

Mark it in your diary now and consider who you might invite along.
Please see the attached PDF for more.

I might see if I can get along. Anyone else from the forum likely to be going?

I have considered doing something similar at our church on the central coast, and would be interested to see how they manage the event.

I'll probably go along, I've made contact with Alan (from the attachment) and so far there's about nine scopes. Hopefully will have clear skies
cheers
Adam
