Drone hoverfly

Been a while since I shot some macro. I'm a bit out of practice. Saw this drone hoverfly on the outdoor table so took some shots. Think both shots are at a little over 1:1, maybe 1.5:1. MPE-65 and MT-24EX.

They have amazing, crazy eyes....

Wow, incredible. I was blown away when I opened those.

Except it's not hovering. Or flying.

Terrific shots; razor sharp with very oodles of DOF!

Cheers

They are amazing shots Troy, I think you've stolen Ving's "lord of the flies" hat.

I didn't even know the MPE-65 existed, I want one (the lens not the fly........)

lol - there's hats?

The MPE-65 is a wonderful piece of glass providing 1:1 to 5:1 magnification for macro, but she's a very difficult lens to master. Particularly at higher mags like 3:1 to 5:1. I rarely go that high as I'm still getting used to it. Optics properties like depth of field and diffraction softening really come into play. Even those shots above show signs of diffraction softening. I should have opened up to f/9 or wider.

Excellent shots
Nice shade of light, almost as if he's got a Queensland suntan
the MPE 65 seems like an exciting lens

Nice shots.

Gotta love that MP-E 65 lens.
Here's a shot I did using it a while back: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/a...se.php?a=14718

It's a great lens but as was said it takes a while to master it well due to the fact that there's no manual focus and the DOF is sooo thin.
You also need to use a flash most of the time since you work so close to the subject.

Thanks guys.

Andrew - like the match ignition shot. I tried this last Xmas but no luck on getting such an appealing image as yours.
