Sky & Tel...have I missed another one?

The continuing saga of missing magazine copies may not be over yet. I got the last issue at work OK. Prior to that, the previous 3 issues never arrived. I emailed Sky & Tel and they have changed my mailing address to home, which should kick in for the current issue. Normally it arrives by the middle of the month, but it is still a no show.

Has anyone else received the current issue, the one with the space station on the front cover?

I assume you are refering to the Australian version of S&T.

Last one I received was the Sep/Oct issue, with the astronaut performing the space walk on the cover. I believe that's the current issue, celebrating 50 years of space travel.

The current issue is displayed at upper right of this page.

He means the US version (the Oct issue).

I've received a copy but only because they used one of my Jupiter images.

Mine came today! Wow, that a surprise, usually I'm the last to get it, even here in Perth.

I just recieved my October issue US version Sky and Telescope in Friday's (21-9-07) post.

With a quick scan looks like they have changed some of the layout...I haven't had a chance to read it but it looks nice! Hope you get your copy son...

Sorry to raise this question AGAIN....for the umpteenth time...but...

I never received the October 2007 issue of the US Sky & Telescope, the November one arrived...eventually....around the 20 something of October. It is now almost the end of November and I have yet to receive my December issue! I think this makes about 5 missing issues so far this year?

Does ANYONE have the same problems with getting an issue out of these guys! My subscription is current until some time in 2010...I guess by then I should have received another couple of issues.

I think my only option is to cancel my subscription and maybe put the remaining balance against a book or something and subscribe to a magazine who at least DELIVER! Of course this assumes they will actually deliver whatever I order.

Sky and Space may be late at times, but at least you get something! If they skip an issue, your subscription is extended.

Australian Sky and Telescope always seem to get an issue through around the same time each month....is it too much to expect that you should to get something you have paid for?

US Sky and Telescope need to get their act together...at least from my viewpoint. I have sent a number of emails notifying them of missing issues, I received one reply several months ago and now they seem to ignore me! I tried changing my mailing address, which got the November one through....

If you are thinking of subscribing to this magazine, I suggest you look around and try something else....Astronomy, Astronomy Now, Sky at Night are a few I have been looking at recently.

Do you think I could transfer my credit over to one of these

My apologies for venting my spleen, I just hope my frustration will at least make ME feel better.... I have nothing but praise for our Australian equivalents, they do a great job for such a limited market, but I just wanted a US magazine to drool over the prices and see some of the new products before it is released out here.

I've never missed an issue of the US version but sometimes the date the magazine is received by me is a bit erratic...but, I've always gotten it

I also subscribe to Astronomy magazine from the US and have not had any problems receiving from them usually within a day or two of the same day each month...

Never had a problem with local Australian version...on time and chock full of Astro goodness!

Maybe I am just lucky!

Good Luck!

S&t

I've just received the Dec2007 issue. Had to change my mailing address to the UK, but it still got here, although it was addressed " surrey, Australia"!!!!

I must have missed something... the Dec issue is woeful, cheap paper, smaller format and they've gone back to stapled spine ( they were prefect bound, ie glued spine for the last ten years) It feels as if it's been dumbed down!!
I started getting S&T in the early 1960's and have subsequently collected the full set back to Nov1941, but this recent change makes me feel sad.
Just a Pommie winge!!!

OneofOne, maybe your postie is a closet astronomer? Australia post used to regularly "lose" our parcels and mail until we moved.

I thought this too. I had been getting the issue for a couple of years at my home address in Bentleigh until I missed a couple of issues, so I thought someone was taking it out of my letter box. So I changed to my work address in Richmond and received a few issues but then I missed an issue, then we moved from Richmond to Burwood and a completely different postal area, and began getting issues again after an address change. Then they started going missing again, so I changed to my home address again, and got the November issue (albeit a bit late). I sent them an email confirming that I got that issue. The address on the front was exactly correct, no spelling mistakes, correct post code etc. November is now almost over and I still haven't got it. So I have had it sent to Bentleigh, Richmond, Burwood and back to Bentleigh again over about a 3 year period and have missed 5 issues (I think) in the last year or so...I hope the postie isn't following me!

So I doubt it could be the postal system as it would have gone to three different mail centres and has gone missing from all of them three different posties.

Yippee! My December issue of S&T finally arrived last night, December 4! I will send them an email to let them know it arrived, even though I am still waiting for a reply to my email I sent November 30 informing them that it had not arrived (again)....customer service is obviously not a strong point!

I have just finished reading Sky At Night...so now I can start on this one!

Does anyone else get their issues so late? I recall I used to get it around the time of the ASV meetings on the second Wednesdays of the month, last issue was about the 20th and now 4th of the next month.

Well, blow me down with a feather! My January issue of US Sky & Tel arrived last night (December 21), the December one just arrived on December 4. This is the first one in months that has actualy arrived early enough for me to not begin to worry where it is! And it had to contend with the Christmas mail.

HOWEVER, where's my Australian Sky & Tel? It has been in the newsagents for about a week!

Argggggghhhhh!

Jan/Feb Australian Sky & Telescope

Trevor,

Just saw your post here about your missing Jan/Feb 2008 AS&T.

Subscriber copies of the Jan/Feb issue were mailed out two weeks ago, but we'll mail you a replacement copy today.

Regards,
Greg

One of One

I've been reading these posts for a while. Have you considered that the problem might be with the Australia Post or even the postman (sorry post-person) here? Another possibility is that the delivered material might be being pinched from your mail box?
The latter point happened to me a few years ago when I caught someone stealing my mail and my "Australia Geographic" - and had to call the cops on them. Charged the ratbag!
You might also consider asking the post office to hold you mail for a month or so, and see if you have the same problem of magazine delivery. Just tell 'em you think someone is pinching you mail.
As to Greg's offer of another AS&T - I really think is very generous of them. Good to see some real customer service for once (ahem, unlike some others we have seen) - and certainly gains some brownie points in my view!

Must be Christmas!

Quite funny actually. When the US version arrived I said to my wife "well the Australian copy of Sky and Tel has arrived, I wonder how long until the US one arrives this time." As I was reading through some of the articles and I noticed some unusual ads...not the companies that are usually in the Aussie version. Then I looked at the cover and realised it was the US one!

Gregs offer is terrific! I think this is the first time an Aussie issue appears to have gone missing. Of course with the time of year as it is, it will be a while before it gets through....I should be finished the US one by then and ready for another fix!
