Messier 61

Hi All

To my surprise there was no wind and no cloud, at least for a few hours last night, so I went out to the obs before the moon rose.
This is a spiral galaxy and a few of it's friends. I would have got more exposures but the clouds and the moon raised their ugly heads.

great shot!

nice image Steve
If you compare this image of M61 http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/a...se.php?a=51757 with your image you can still see the Supernova that was observed in December last year.

Steve if you take pictures of galaxies it is a good idea to find another image of said galaxy and compare it, you may just get lucky
Most well known Ngc galaxies will have images taken by amateurs on Google, or if not try the DSS
Cheers

I usually do Ron ... not just galaxies either ... I collect lots of Deep Sky images. I have seen other images of M61 but generally close up shots. There are lots of brilliant galaxy images on the RCOS website.

Great work Steve. I don't think I've seen many wide field images of this target to show its neighbours. Provides a nice vista. Have to ask where are you getting these clear skies from? Your an imaging machine my friend. Those skies in Pingelly haven't been that good of late. Thanks for sharing.

Haven't had a lot of clear skies Jase, that's why I went out for a couple of hours to do this target ... I've been wanting to image it for a while now. We have thunder storms and rain here today.
