Building a roll off shed

Hi guys,

I just wanted to post that I have finally recieved my flat packed shed, pier, and all the associated bits and pieces to finally build my observatory.

I will mount my LX200 gps 10" permanetly and simply roll the entire shed off when I want to image etc.

If anyone is intersted I will post some before/ after / and construction shots when completed.

I am certainly looking forward to not having to polar align to the same extent, but just simply goto! It takes me about 1 hour to set up and align currently, hope to have this down to 15 min!

Hi Paul,
I'd be interested to know any details about the shed. Is it specifically designed with a roll-off roof, or is this your own adaptation? Who supplied the shed? Emma Chissit? Hope to see your construction shots.

Hi Paul

Yes, I would also be very interested. I am in the "late" planning stages for my observatory. I would ask the same questions that Robert has. Photos? Sure, I hope to see some soon.

That's great Ian!
I think, however, that my design is slightly different. My roof doesn't roll off - the entire shed rolls off! Also, I am building mine in an area (side of house) only 900mm wide and will be viewing "over" and "along" the roof line of my house). I get a FOV window 25 deg E, Full zenith, 315 deg w (not much south though!). This equates to 4 hours of imaging/viewing time along the celestial equatorial line.

Thats why I couldnt build a wide stay put shed, but had to design it to completely roll off the scope/pier.

Wish I had more room like you! I plan on a wireless setup so I can go inside on cold nights!

Here are some progress shots. Have built the above ground footing ready for the steel pier, have built the sub frame where the roll of shed will sit, and have built a wind/privacy shield.

This is the only position on my block where I can position without obstruction. I am practically shooting over the roof line. Attached is my FOV window within the white box.

Next update will see the pier bolted on and the shed on!

Well Paul, I was shocked to see the space that you're working with and then very impressed by your solution! I look forward to progress photos.

Ok guys, the roll off shed is just about completed. All thats left to do is fit the back to base security alarm, the portable A/C unit, and sheet up the underside. (I have cut away the opening and fitted the hinged door also.

I have addded pictures showing pier, shed, and rollers.
