Fitting optical encoders to a cg4/EQ3 mount

I'm thinking of moving the optical encoders currently on my dob onto my CG-4 equatorial mount, simply because it gets used so much more than the dob. The encoders use the David Ek interface with CDC on my laptop.

I can see a way of installing an encoder on the RA axis, but am stumped at the moment for ways of installing one on the DEC axis.

Has anyone installed encoders on their GEM?, or got any ideas of how I could do it?

Thanks
Chris

And another way (I presume that CG4 is similar to EQ5):
