Exclamation Did we miss this?

I did a forum search but couldn't find any mention of this news item from last July, reported on the ABC. I wasn't involved with the forum at this stage, so I may have missed it.

Galaxy's second brightest star found

Friday, 18 July 2008

.........Named the 'Peony Nebula' star, it has been calculated to be as bright as 3.2 million suns. That's approaching the supremacy of the brightest known star in the galaxy, Eta Carina, which blazes at 4.7 million times our sun's light output........

Hey Robert9,

Galaxy's second brightest star found

That's an interesting find. I'm a newer member than you, so I can't comment any further. Apart that I learn a lot reading the posts on this forum, placed by members such as you.
Thanks for sharing.

Cheers Marty

Wow,
One would need to pack a pretty hefty Sun-Block to go outside with a star like that one in the daytime....

Its hard to believe how a star could have such extraordinary brightness as that ( or the brightest one as the article states as Eta Carina ).

Thx for the article , it was interesting.

Geoffro.

Hi Marty,
You might be a newer member, but not by much. Looking at the number of posts you've made, your certainly more active. I agree this certainly is a great forum.

Geoffro,
The mind just boggles at the immensity of these objects. I'm just pleased to know they reside in deep space, where one can see them and appreciate their beauty from a safe distance! I guess that's what fascinates me about this hobby. I know I'll never make real sense of it all, but I can enjoy it.
