Ngc 3521

Hi All,

The weather finaly cleared up last month to allow us to travel out to Golden Grove to do some more imaging.

I managed to get six exposures of 422 seconds to give us the image at the url below.

There seems to be very little info about this Galaxy on the net.

I was a little disapointed at first with this result, however it seems that my results is what one could expect with my setup, a 10 inch LX200R with a unmodified Canon 20D.

you're right its not one we see much of, tricky little target.

On my monitor it looks like the background sk could be darkened a tiny bit

Not a bad result Chris. You can see glimpses of the possibilities with this target in your image, but its simply not obtainable with what you've acquired. More data would allow you to stretch it harder, in which I feel would deliver a satisfying result. Good work and keep at it.

Thanks for the comments.

Frank, you are correct about the background, I did not take the background as close to black as I normaly do as it subtract from the data of the target. More than likely due to the limited data that I collecte on the night. As Jase pointed out, the image gives a hint of the possiblities if I was was to collect a lot more data, photons, from the target.

I was very supprissed the image turned out as well as it did as I pushed the camera to 1600ASA with 7 minute exposures with very resulting single images VERY noisy.

Will add some more data in the future.

A great effort Chris! more data more stretch! try and get at least a couple of hours ,more If you can.... looking at this shot there should be lots of wonderful detail !

I've never seen this galaxy before and no nothing about It but It does remind me of M63.
