Global Star Party in Willoughby, NSW Sat 4 April

Willoughby Council, with the support of Northern Sydney Astronomical Society, will be holding a public Star Party on Saturday 1 April, from 7 p.m., at Bicentenial Park, Willoughby Road. This is a registered event under IYA2009, and being held on the night of the Global Star Party, which is itself part of the 100 Hours of Astronomy. Besides a number of telescopes and members of NSAS to show the night sky to the public, there will be lectures and presentations on astronomical subjects, entertainment, and food available. Willoughby Council is being sponsored by the Heritage Council in this activity, and wishes to invite any interested persons along for what should be an interesting evening.

Leaflets and posters are being distributed in the North Shore, Sydney area, and anyone wishing further information can contact either:

Denise.Catt@Willoughby.nsw.gov.au or nsas@nsas.org.au

The Council has also put out a call for other amateur astronomers who wish to participate in cooperation with NSAS.

What about the weather?

Hi guys,

Does anyone know what will happen if it is cloudy, or worse raining? Would it be called off? I believe it is outdoors with marquee cover only for displays?

Has anyone heard it promoted in the media?

Regards

Glenn

Swap the eyepieces for beer goggles...

Hi Glenn, I live a few minutes away from the location and I was there last Saturday night.

The observing going on is more likely to be of the heavenly bodies - if any - that frequent the nearby pubs.

So I think it's little more than an excuse for a party... rain or shine.

The kindest thing might be if it rains.
