FWIW Tasmanian water when tested often has alarming levels of pesticides such as Atrizine and Simazine. I recently (last thursday) attended a forum on Aerial spraying of pesticides, one of the Guest speakers was
Dr Tyrone Hayes an acknowledged expert on the effects of chemical sprays on our health and the health of our fauna.
Dr Hayes stated that while in Tasmania he would not drink our water, such were the levels of contamination.
He went on to say that these chemicals are even absorbed in to the skin (even whilst showering) and that the effects of exposure can be handed down from mother to child and even on to grandchildren.
They are linked to cancer (not directly, but are known as "promoters" as they are
endocrine disrupters and cause alterations to hormone types and levels within the body) and also cause decreased fertility, not surprinsingly Tasmania has the highest cancer rates in the country and 1 in 6 child births are IVF.
If you have children who like to swim, be aware that
Simazine is often used as an algicide in Australia, check with your local council and ask questions about what they are using in your local pool.
I don't want to sound like a spoil sport, Boags beer is a wonderful product, I enjoy it myself but there's nothing to be proud of in the water here.
