Looking for Cable sleeving.

Desperately looking for Nylon or polyester cable sleeving for home project.

ANY COLOUR, ANY LENGTH. Even if it is destined for the bin, I want it.

Need it in 30 to 60 mm inside diameter.

I can't buy it anywhere but on a roll. No one sells it by the metre and it is waaaay too expensive to buy by the roll.

I have been trying to get my hands on this stuff for three years and am soooo frustrated.

It seems there are plenty of manufacturers, but no one buys it. I have called data cable technicians, Telstra, Beuro of meteorology, CSIRO engineering, ANU, computer outlets, electricans, server technicians....you name it.

Please, please, if anyone knows anyone that works with this stuff and has offcuts, I would love to hear from you.

Baz.

Barry,
Auto spares (eg Autobarn) shops sell sleeving in different diameters. It is quite heavy-duty and used for bundling electrical cables in autos ( - would you believe?) I have used it to bundle my caravan power and electric-brake cables. It is fairly firm and split so that you can cover cable bundles which are already fitted with connectors or have the ends attached.
I assume you do have these type of shops in Canberra.

Nah, that's the wrong stuff. I checked it out. That is the hard plastic ribbed stuff with the split so you can slip your cables in sideways instead of thru the end. I am specifically after the Braided sleeving. I don't intend to use it for cabling application.

Thanks Robert, I very much appreciate the effort mate. Yes this was one of the first places I checked when I did a search a couple of years ago. I spoke to CABAC sales on the phone again earlier today. Unfortunately 30mm is the limit on the kits. If I want 30 to 60mm, then I have to buy full rolls. I asked how am I supposed to get smaller lengths in the larger diameters and they had no suggestions, "That's just the way it is".

I have pretty much given up on the manufacturers and their distributors, they have no care whatsoever for the small-time likes of me. That's why I am advertising all over the net for anyone who might have old stuff or offcuts.

Surely someone uses it.....

Good luck Barry.

I remember as a kid, one could get free samples of products for use in school projects. You could write and ask for a freebee - pretend you are 10.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Barry,

a friend of mine has an industrial electrician buisness, I'll ask him if he knows anyone here in Orange. Also mates with an electronics tech who works for Toshiba...will plague him for possiblities also.

Whats the minimum length that would get you out of trouble in the mean time?

Just found this...
2" Split Braided Sleeving (4 ft.)

This woven high temperature polymer allows the user to achieve the Old School look of woven cloth wire loom with all the advantages of modern materials. This loom is semi-rigid and will maintain this state to over 250 degrees F. Melting temperature is 400 degrees. Can easily be deformed to make sharp turns or cover small connectors. Loom is split longitudinally, however material memory allows it to form complete closure over wires. Easily cut with scissors or a hot knife.

from http://buy-for-home.com/eastwood-item092151.html
But it is a split braided sleeve. Comes in other diameters as you can see on the site and in reasonable lengths.

or... http://www.techflex.biz/

Good luck, Kerrie

Thanks for that Kerrie, but no, the split is not what I need. However, that techflex link looks very promising. I will check it out tomorrow and see where it leads. Thanks heaps.

I have looked at other braided products like braided fibreglass and even braided steel. The problem with these is they are too stiff. I looked at a braided mesh or soft plastic product also, but that is too weak.

It must be a full tube, and it must be polyester or nylon.

Cheers,

Baz.
