Gday

I have been lurking around the site for a few weeks, reading, learning, now I have signed up. I couldnt find a specific spot for introductions, so I am posting here

My name is Jay, I have just completed a Bachelor of science majoring in astrophysics (and start honours in physics in a few weeks). I have been interested in astro since as long as I can remember. I have only owned one telescope before, which was sadly a department store refractor my parents gave me when I was a kid.. They didnt know any better, but that sort of killed my interest in backyard observing.

Anyway, now I have an 8 inch Saxon dob coming (surprise surprise, they seem to be a great starting scope, in price size and capability) - it has been upgraded to have a crayford focusor and I paid a bit extra to get some good william optics EP (a 7mm UWAN and 25,44mm SWAN).

Im looking forward to some nice dark skies and sleepless nights over the next few weeks

I live in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne - just far enough out that it is dark at my house and a half hour drive will get me to plenty of great observing spots. Hopefully I can come along to some observing nights!

Cheers, Jay

Jay, there are quite a few iceinspacers in Melbourne and surrounds to hook up with once the bushfires and smoke have cleared away

Welcome Jay! I'm also in the SE suburbs of Melbourne

No bushfire smoke here, just cloud, but later in the week the smoke is forecast to drift over us..
