Look out....Wasps!!...

How's this for lucky.

We went shopping today for some new plants etc for the back deck, and bought some sanding materials and outdoor furniture oil to help bring back a nice jarrah chair back to life.

While the partner was sanding the chair back...she had no idea this little 'world' was being built on the chair's underside

Needless to say she discovered it quite quickly when she flipped the chair over to work the other side. LOL

Luckily it was only a small nest. If you look closely at the closer of the two shots you can see the little wasp 'grubs' in their little cells.

Amazing creatures. So industrious and organised.

Yeh Matt, Lucky alright,

Would have been interesting having a barby on the deck and have these little critters invite themselves.

Love the closeup also.

Regards
Trevor

They're paper wasps. Not as aggressive as other species. You can get pretty close to them. I've shot 2:1 macros about about 70mm away from their nest before and they didn't attack. Mind you, I was moving very slowly and steadily, keeping an eye on their behavior very closely. It is fascinating being able to see their growth from egg to larva to wasp. Great captures.
