Saturn - 14th January 2009

Hi all

Although my body was aching from my first sparring class in over 4 weeks at Karate the night before, I was still determined to get up at 2am to image Saturn on the morning of the 14th January. The very hot days we’ve had and the High Pressure system sitting over the NSW East Coast is usually a good sign that the seeing is going to be quite good.

It didn’t disappoint, and I was able to capture Saturn from between 2:30am to 4:30am in quite reasonable seeing - definitely my best for this apparition.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Mike,
Good to see you back into it. Definetly better than your early image.
Like the colour and banding.

No doubt as it rises higher you will get more signal and sharper images at 5x. Would have looked great at 2x or 3x.

Regards
Trevor

Hi Mike

That’s a mighty fine effort and a much larger image scale than I would have expected given the relatively low altitude of Saturn and its much dimmer appearance due to the closed rings. You haven’t lost you touch eh!

Aching body from karate? From the stretching/warm up exercises, or as a result of the kicks and punches not dodged? If the latter, is the sparring full contact or was it case of poor judgment of length?

Cheers

Dennis
