Advice on Astrophotography Telescope

Hi All,

What are your thoughts on the most "usable" type of scope for astrophotography, in particular DSO's? Imaging would at first be done with a DSLR, with the view to move to CCD later on.

I'm currently using my first ever scope (114mm diameter and 900mm length) that was purchased from GraysOnline. It's on an EQ2 mount on aluminium tripod, and all in all it just feels cheap. Whilst it gives nice views of the moon and can just make out individual stars in the Pleiades, my main interest is in DSO's (both for viewing and imaging).

Any advice would be great, especially on the type of scope that is better suited to DSO viewing/imaging.

Cheers guys and girls!!!

Ben

And remember, the scope that is "best" for astrophotography is not necessarially the best for viewing.

Happy reading
