Jupiter & moons in single-frame DSLR exposure

I found this on disk today, and remember that I mucked around with a couple of focus test shots on Jupiter on the evening of 09/09/2008. I was trying out my Tak FS-102 on the moon and was very happy with shots of that object that evening.

I'd forgotten about the three or four shots I quickly snapped of Jupiter until now. Here is one of them - mild levels tweaking and that's about it. It's nowhere near as good as a webcam stacked image, but for single frame I think it turned out OK.

Single frame by Nikon D40 at 1/4 sec at ISO800. Takahashi FS-102 with Televue 5x PowerMate

Thanks for looking!

Hey!, not bad Chris, even got a transit shadow on the top left of the Planet's disk!

Well done!

Cheers

I like it, Chris

It's nice to see a wide image like this, especially for someone like me who spends most of my time imaging and viewing at very long focal lengths.

Nice shot, was it done via the prime focus method?

Nice work Chris, I'd be interested to see a few stacked using the same technique.

Thanks Ric & Phil

Phil - now that I have this small sequence, I'll make a point of trying to shoot for these images next time a decent planet is in view.
