Small milestone
Just thought I'd share this with all my IIS imaging buddies
When I logged on tonight I was surprised to discovered that the total page hits for my website had just pased 500 000 yesterday, currently standing at 500 584 total hits (since 26 Jan 2006). Don't know if that's a lot relatively (and don't care really) but it was cool to see the image hit counter at over 1/2 Million . To me that's a lot of views so it's great to think that so many have enjoyed the pretty pictures
It's interesting to see which have been the most popular images during this time. The three most viewed individual astronomical images of the 565 images on display, so far have been:
1) The Eye of God with 4864 hits
http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...15236/original
2) Ultra Deep Centaurus A with 3025 hits
http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...61387/original
3) The Hand of God with 3024 hits
http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...63746/original
and interestingly...this image has even had 2171 hits
http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...60449061/large
No ulterior motive here and no big deal, I don't think it is better than anyone else or anything (I am sure there are more impressive stats and sites out there), I just thought I'd share this little and personally cool milestone with those that I have shared all these images and all my fun (mostly ) with over all this time
Now here's hoping that I can get out and image again soon...
Mike

Aw com'on Fred be niiiiiiiice, and don't missinterpret my motives here . I'm only telling all my imaging budies on IIS.. and that's what makes this forum so great and the one I participate on the most - we are all friends (I hope?). If friends can't share little things like this without being accused of..?..playing with their instruments, well god dam it..?..?..we, well, need to burn our bra's!.. .. ..

Mike the friendly natured ribbing among your peers, all at the top of your game, is a sign your work is at an exceptionally high standard.
You've produced some fantastically memorable images over the years and the awards on your mantelpiece are testament to that.
That's a great milestone for your site and you should be proud.

Well done mate! Good for you. I probably contributed to half of those hits. I'm always stuck on your website as I use it as reference for imaging, collimation or other things. Great resource. Keep up the good work.

Funny you should say that, the CatsEye collimation pages are some of the most visited on the whole web site. The telescope depicted in the shots was a lemon unfortunately but I am glad so many have been helped by the explanation of how to collimate a Newtonian with Jims excellent tools

Well done Mike.
Given the traffic flow on my webpage, I estimate I'll hit 500,000 when Halley's returns.

Congrats, Mike.
You have every right to celebrate milestones and achievements...and it's great that you come here to share those moments with your friends at IIS.
It's just a shame you don't live nearby so I could pop round and share a beer with you to celebrate...like that afternoon in Canberra when I visited to check out your 12" LX200 you had for sale...
It was nice to meet you ..... and drink your beer!!!!!!
You're a friendly and 'sharing' kind of bloke

Nice one Mike. 500,000 hits in two years (nearly three) is pretty good considering you're not commercial. Just make sure you're not counting the bots. I get at least four bots/crawlers hits an hour. Clearly, these aren't people browsing your site. Not sure what web counter/stats software you use, but I run php code which distinguishes real users to those of automated hits from bots/crawlers.

Well done Mike. Perhaps you should register a domain and sell advertising to google ads or something?

Congrats on the milestone Mike.
Definitely a testament to the great images to be found there. I must account for a few hits every week, always popping in to see what you have been up to.
Cheers

Hey, not bad for 3 years! And it looks like that plug won you another 1500 hits or so Mike ... well done!! .
I confess visiting your site from time to time - those heavenly bodies deserve a second look ... and a third .... and a fourth .... and a fifth ............ .
Hurry up and build that new observatory so you can get to the million mark by this time next year!!!
Cheers, Marcus

Thanks for the nice replies guys, just s little note worth sharing with my buddies
Looks like I may have found a place to image from in the lower hunter - a more convenient distance, so I'll be able to do more imageing (hopefully) so perhaps I will be doing less repro's soon?
...now, on to the 1 000 000 mark
Happy imaging
Mike
