Vixen VC200L

Hi,

Just found this. 3000 AUD for a Vixen VC200L, this is pretty cheap for an Australian sourced scope?

What do you guys think?

Yes, it's an 8". I am asking because I seem to remember they were around this price a while ago when the aussie dollar was very high?

I believe I was quoted around $1850 by http://www.astro-optical.com.au/ and http://www.myastroshop.com.au/ before the dollar crash (both are vixen dealers in oz). Also add the cost of the focal reducer, camera adapters and extension tubes, which was about $500 before the crash.

Thanks,

I guess that is just an average price then adjusted for the fall in the dollar...

I normally look to optcorp for prices and compare from there. It would cost about $3K to bring one in from there at the moment, but it has gone from Japan to the US to here

They are worth every cent and more. I get lots of offers to sell mine - no hope.

Hi Paul,

As Robin has already mentioned AO were selling VC200Ls for a bargain price last winter. I bought mine from them even cheaper than AU$1800 in July. It shouldn't be that cheap now because of AUD/USD rate but I think it's still less than $3000.

Also there were two Vixen dealers in HK who offered me VC200L OTAs for around AUD$1500-1600 which includes shipping cost. I decided to buy it from AO because there is no Australian warranty if you buy it from HK.
I'm quite sure they are still selling them but have no idea what current price is. If you need their web site URLs I can check my emails.

And there is a guy on ebay who sells VC200L OTAs for US$1385 with postage included. It's just AU$2130. I bought some astro gear from him and he is a nice guy.

cheers,

Mike

Hi I have one I bought from Myastro shop in Oz for around the $1800 mark. Steve may be worth contacting as he often keeps a couple in stock. I doubt they would have risen to $3K.
They are truely a great imaging scope. I have posted quite a few images from this little scope and haven't yet used it to anywhere near it's full capacity.
