I am just wondering if it is possible to see the reflection nebula in the seven sisters?
I was out at the local golf club where the skies are a little darker and was looking at the seven sisters through my 2" 32mm eyepiece and think I may have seen some a slight fuzz around a few of the brighter stars. I'm not sure if it was high cloud or not.
Is it possible that I did in fact see some reflection nebula?
Yes is the answer.
From the dark sky ASV site in the 80's it was definately noticable around Merope. A good dark sky, clean collimated optics should show it.
From memory, we were using 10" reflectors.....
NGC 1435 (the Merope nebula) is an easy object. I can see it with 20x80s and with my 12".
Merope is the top right star in this image by Chris (cwjames): http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/a...8&d=1200141061
and NGC 1435 is above it.

That looks very similar to the "fuzz" I saw around the top star. Cheers ' Glenc
