On Saturday night I first noticed the components E & F in the trapezium. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the seperation of A to E and C to F?
With a 10", A-F should be visible at moderate mags under average conditions. i've seen them at under 100x.
With Sirius A, you'll need excellent seeing and as high a magnification as possible in order tyo increase the apparent seperation between the two as much as possible. Aesthetics of the image take a back seat in this case. Also, make sure you don't mistake internal reflections of the eyepiece for Sirius B, these can look ALOT like the diminutive pup! Sirius B is due east of Sirius A, so the pup will "follow" the parent star across the sky as seen thru the eyepiece.
Remember, seeing has to be very good, otherwise you won't see it. I've observed the pup a number of times and seeing HAS to be good.
