10:1 GSO focuser on new SW 12" Dob.

Hi all,
When I purchased my new 12” SW Dob I was keen to fit another 10:1 focuser to it.
I had a 10” GSO with one and I loved it. But I could not afford a feather touch or moon lite.
The new SW had a nice crayford on it but still not a 10:1. And once you use one it’s very hard not to have one.
But GSO and SW parts do not match.
So I remembered Daniel (danielsun) changed his 10” SW
So search the threads I found the information I needed.

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=16406

I did not have any access to a lathe. Even if I did I could not use it!!
So I printed Daniels photo’s and thread comments.
Took the 2 focusers down to an engineer near where I work.
We use him for fittings and maintenance at work.
He looked at it all and said should be fine. I gave him some more measurements as I wanted some more in focus.
The photos tell the rest of the story. It all came together very nicely.
It cost more than I had hoped for. But you soon forget such things.
As long as it works and your happy.

Also I re greased the GSO focuser and used this web page to help.

http://www.backyardvoyager.com/gsofocuser.html

But there are some differences in the newer focusers.

Cheers Dave.

Well done Dave. I take it the height of the adapter is about 5-10mm lower than the plastic adaper as used in the SW focuser to enable paracorr use now?

Yes Geoff it should be. I lowered the focusing point about 10mm so i hope that the paracorr will now come to focus with all the ep's.

Nice adapter, Dave.

Is that three grub screws to hold the focusser firmly in the adapter? That's better than the GSO standard - good.

Cute paint job on that scope as well!

Did you know you can get 10:1 knobs that fit most focusers?

Damn that is a professional looking installation mate... Very well done...

I've gotta ask, is that Automotive paint you used on that? Looks a bit like a color I once sprayed onto one of my old commodores...

Snazzy as

Thanks all.
Erick, that is 3 grub screws

Robin, I did but I had the focuser before I got the scope.

AlexN, If you mean the paint on the OTA that's the new SW diamond black paint. Yeh looked cool under the flash of the camera.

Impressive work David - must be satisfying to see it come together so well.
