Very nice pics I must say that I haven't seen one like that either, the only ones I know are green and longer in the but?

I'm in awe of your images, Ving. Anne-Louise and I were trying to identify the type of mantis we caught a few months ago, and I remember seeing a similar mantis as yours, but do you think I can find that site again? This is the one I took of ours, much blander and not as funky as yours .

Does anyone know how to identify these insects... ? I thought that there would be heaps of sites, but couldn't find much good info.

hi tony, mines actually a nymph so its only about 1-1.5cm long. it will probably grow up to be a standard green or brown mantis like yours

we must have had some hatch in out cat run because i saw 3 of them

Thats why they look so different... however there are masses of different species on the net... just not much to identify them.
