Star Trek crew - meet Enterprise

A little bit of history

Quote:
The Shuttle Enterprise

In 1976, NASA's space shuttle Enterprise rolled out of the Palmdale manufacturing facilities and was greeted by NASA officials and cast members from the 'Star Trek' television series.

From left to right they are: NASA Administrator Dr. James D. Fletcher; DeForest Kelley, who portrayed Dr. "Bones" McCoy on the series; George Takei (Mr. Sulu); James Doohan (Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott); Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura); Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock); series creator Gene Rodenberry; NASA Deputy Administrator George Low; and, Walter Koenig (Ensign Pavel Checkov).

Funny, I was just watching the extras on the "Generations" movie a couple of hours ago, and one of the segments was on that exact topic!

A few years ago I was going for a couple of weeks holiday and one of my fitters had been dragging his feet installing a pump. I laid the pump on his desk and left the pic below on top with a message. "Make It So ! Commander Glenhuon.
By the time I got back all the guys had convinced him I really did own the uniform.

Its interesting that the Space Shuttle "Enterprise" did not actually flight in space much like the "Enterprise" in the Star Trek serie. On the other hand the Star Trek version had more simulated space time then the actual shuttle name sake.

What NASA should have done is got the cast of Star Trek to test flight the Space Shuttle "Enterprise" you can hear it now;

Kirk: Uhura infrom Houston we are ready for launch
Uhura: Houston, Enterprise ready for launch
Houston: Roger, Enterprise you are clear for launch
Kirk: Sulu give me ignition
Sulu: Ay Captain

Engines ignite

Kirk: Sulu engines to full throttle
Sulu: Ay Captain
Spoke: We have cleared the tower, Jim
Kirk: Sulu throttle engines back to 90% and commance roll.
Spoke: Roll complete, Jim

90sec go by

Houston: Go for throttle up
Uhura: Captain, Houston said go for throttle up
Kirk: “Scotty warp facture nine”
Scotty “Captain the hydrogen and Oxygen what burn fast enough, she’s going to blow”
