M-31 + M-33 w/ED80+EOS300D

Hi All,
We have had some real clear nights here, so herewith a couple of Pix. of M-31 and M-33, seems that my Canon ,(modded) NR-glass filter has grown Fungus or the like, causing dark spots on the images (not Bok Globs.) so it looks like coming apart again, Pix submitted anyway.

M-31= 4 x 6 Min. at ISO800, DF removed, guided

M-33= 6 x 6 Min. at ISO800, DF removed, guided (cropped Pix)

regards....Jim

It might be junk on the glass and just needs to be cleaned off. Bintel cleaner with q-tips and clean unscented tissues and a blower to get rid of the final bits of tissue lint does the trick.

Wow they're pretty nasty spots. Flats would take care of most of them - is there a reason you're not taking flats?

It could just be junk on the sensor too that would probably clean off ok.

Apart from the spots they are both lovely images. M31 has come out particularly nicely.

Well done.

Great shots. M31 is really nice. M33 turned out a little bit noisier but still heaps of details in the core. Good tracking too.

M31 + M33

Hi All,
Thanks for all the comments, the problem with the EOS300D is, I madified it, replacing the IR/UV filter with Edmunds non-reflective glass, the coating on the glass has grown a fungus or the like on the inner surface near the Image Sensor, ill try and get a picture of it and post same, there might have been a reaction between the adhesive (used to secure the glass) and the coating, in any case it means another pull apart job,not nice.

cheers.......Jim

EOS300D Modded- Fungus on ES Glass

Hi All,
Just a follow up on the Fungus Growth problem, as it might save someone else problems, im posting a Pix. (contrast stretched) of M31 and the growth problem stands out well, I can only suggest caution in the affixing medium used (I think this is the problem) when replacing the Filter during modification.

regards..................Jim

M31 Pix-Fungus on Lens problem solved

Hi All,
In case anyone is interested out there with a Modified Canon EOS300 or the like, the Fungus or its kind, was not on the ES non-reflective glass , but on the glass which covers the Image Sensor and was removed by cleaning with distilled water on a lint free cloth, what cuased it I have no idea, but assume that it can happen to any DSLR Canon Camera, so no problem with the Edmunds Scientific glass at all, still its a task and a half getting the EOS300 apart and back together.

cheers.......Jim
