First Sculptor Galaxy

Here is my first basic attempt at the Sculptor Galaxy. Nothing special but it is my first ever go at a galaxy! Steve

We all start somewhere Steve, and for a first attempt you have done very well indeed, just keep at it and we hope to see many more as you progress along this path.

Can you tell us what camera you used and the exposure times etc.

Leon

I was just about to update my post with that. Canon 40d, Skywatcher 8" on EQ6 unguided. 3 * 30 second ISO 1600, 1* 160s ISO 800; and 85s,190s,65s and 175s at ISO 1250. All thrown into DSS with 9 darks and flats. I'm surprised how adjusting the hue and saturation made the image more believable from the 'cartoon' image i initially processed.

Nice work Steve,

Galaxies are quite difficult to image and you have done very well with this one. Like anything else but it is most important for Galaxies, always remember longer and more subs.

This Galaxy you have imaged looks more like NGC 247 than the Sculpter Galaxy (NGC 253).

Well done.

Far better than my first attempted (emulsion) image of a galaxy.

One hour manually guided exposure in freezing conditions, forgot to put film in the camera.

Regards

Steven
