Light Pollution

I just thought I would share my thoughts on light pollution with the world.

Its a bit of a read, but hey, it's from the heart.

http://www.asignobservatory.com/worl...pollution.aspx

I got a lot of replies with pledges of photographs from over forty people around the world. So far only nine have submitted an image...including me.

More should roll in over time. There is enough there so far to get the general idea of what I am trying to illustrate with the different levels of LP around the world.

I have left it open so as more people send me images, I will add them to the article to begin to catalogue the LP all over the world.

Baz.

"There are many advantages to having a darker sky, not being the least, less energy consumed and more money in your pocket. To look up at night and see a glowing sky of glare and flat nothing, or see vast distances to beautiful celestial delights. Now that’s something to share with your kids."

I dream a dream of that time come.

Or I can just buy a holiday home out in the country

Sorry Baz I've been on this band wagon for years but no one in power really wants to know. They all sprout the same rhetoric but nothing happens and if it does very slowing indeed.

When pollie's are frothing out the mouth over carbon tax how can they ignore something so fundamental as each streetlight creates 125kg of greenhouse gases a year and all we need to do is turn off the power, how hard is that.

What can we do ???

That's amazing to see some of the differences Baz. That is a great idea you've come up with.

It's almost like daylight for some of those poor people.

A good point as well Trevor, even if they were only to switch off every second or third streetlight the difference would be amazing not to mention the amount of greenhouse gas you would save.

Cheers
