Sidereal rate/drift alignment.

When I used to drift in my old LXD55 mount, I would end up with a star that would sit in the middle of my eyepiece or close to it for a VERY long time. I could put it in the centre of my screen on my DSI chip and walk away and it would be there 1/2 an hour later, no guiding.
So this leads me to "what is going on with this EQ6 that I bought". Ive been trying to drift it in for 5 nights now, but it seems when I get close I have a lot of drift in RA(I think). I can go west , get that axis to sit in the lines of the recticle but drift in RA and then north to sit in the lines in the recticle but appears to drift in RA as well. Is their a way to adjust the sidereal motor cycles to bring it up or is there software I can download to do this, or have I plain and simply got it wrong in some way. Ive read every drift article I can find including the one on this site. Very confused and becoming disheartened with the EQ6 before I even use it!!

Bablyon,
If you don't get an answer from this forum, the Yahoo! EQ6 or EQ6Mod forums. EQ6Mod bypasses the synscan handpiece and controls the mount from a laptop/PC (I am going to try this using the new V3.23 PC direct firmware but other members of the EQ6Mod forum have stated the PC direct mode still seems unstable).

Only problems I've had with my EQ6 have been caused by incorrect levelling of the mount. I fixed this by making a levelling plate so I can accurately check the mount level after the scope is mounted. That said I haven't got around to drift alignment on the EQ6 yet.

You can get the instructions for the plate at http://members.iinet.net.au/~garin/EQ6plate.pdf )unfortunately it's 536K so it wont upload.
